Travis Vader, the suspect charged in the deaths of a St. Alberta, Alta., couple, is back behind bars, CTV Edmonton has learned.
Vader had been out on bail, but was under house arrest. He was rearrested on charges of assault and breach of bail.
Officials with Alberta Justice confirmed Friday to CTV that Vader is once again in custody.
Vader was first charged in 2012 with two counts of first-degree murder in relation to the deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann.
The McCanns, both in their 70s at the time, were last seen in July 2010, fuelling up their motorhome in their hometown of St. Albert, north of Edmonton. Their burned RV was found a few days after they were last seen, but their bodies have not been found.
Vader was named as a suspect in their disappearances, and was held on unrelated charges until he was finally charged with two counts of first degree murder in 2012.
Those charges were stayed in March of last year, a few weeks before his juried trial was to begin. But he was rearrested in December -- a move his lawyer claims was an abuse of process.
Vader was then granted $25,000 bail just before Christmas.
His trial, if it proceeds, is scheduled for March 2016.
