EDMONTON - The man awaiting trial for the deaths of a St. Albert couple has been rearrested and is facing charges for an alleged assault in St. Albert involving his mother’s boyfriend.

Alberta Justice spokeswoman Michelle Davio confirmed Friday evening that Travis Vader was charged with assault and failure to comply with a bail condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour following an alleged incident Thursday.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Jeff Campbell said the alleged assault was against Vader’s mother’s boyfriend and it occurred at Vader’s mother’s house in St. Albert.

Campbell said Vader was arrested and released following a bail hearing. However, he is still in custody.

A condition of his release was to reside at his mother’s residence, but now that is not possible.

"He has to find a new residence that meets approval of his bail supervisor," Campbell said.

Vader’s next court appearance is slated for March 9.

Vader is facing two charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of St. Albert seniors Lyle and Marie McCann in the summer of 2010.

The charges were first laid in April 2012, but were stayed last March, weeks before his murder trial was set to begin. After more than four years on remand, Vader was released from custody in October after being found not-guilty of unrelated charges.

He was arrested when the murder charges were recommenced on Dec. 19, and spent a weekend in jail before being released to live under house arrest at his mother’s home in St. Albert.

His murder trial is scheduled to start March 7, 2015. day evening.
