The man awaiting trial for the deaths of two St. Albert seniors has been rearrested and is facing multiple charges for two alleged assaults in Barrhead.
Travis Vader was arrested and charged June 13 following a "spousal assault allegation," said RCMP Sgt. Bob Dodds, the detachment commander in Barrhead.
Vader appeared in a Barrhead courtroom Wednesday by closed-circuit television and was not granted bail, Dodds said.
Court documents show Vader faces two assault charges and six charges related to failing to comply with bail conditions. One alleged assault occurred June 13 and the other occurred in April. The victim was the same in both cases.
Barrhead is 120 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
In the six months since murder charges were recommenced against Vader in the death of St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann, Vader has faced other charges and has been granted bail three times.
In April, he was charged for allegedly violating a curfew condition at his residence in Camrose. The Crown later dropped the charge of breaching bail on the grounds it was "not in the public interest to proceed."
In February, he was charged with an alleged assault on his mother’s boyfriend in St. Albert. He was granted bail in that case.
In a separate incident later that month, he was granted bail after he was charged with dangerous driving and six breaches of bail conditions. RCMP said his truck was discovered in Carrot Creek, about 160 kilometres west of Edmonton.
Vader was first released on bail in December 2014, shortly after prosecutors brought the McCann murder charges back to court after staying them earlier in the year.
Vader has alleged ongoing harassment and abuse of process by RCMP and justice officials.
His trial on the McCann charges is scheduled for March 2016.
