Travis Vader shrugged and left without a word after hearing that his court appearance in St. Albert was adjourned another month. Vader appeared in St. Albert court via closed-circuit television from custody on Monday.
The man charged in connection with the murder of two St. Albert seniors was arrested in St. Albert on Feb. 12. St. Albert RCMP said Vader was taken into custody without incident after police were called to the home where he was serving house arrest.
Vader is charged with assault and failing to comply with a condition on his recognizance to keep to peace and be of good behaviour. On Monday, court heard that Vader’s lawyer, Brian Beresh, wants to look into the evidence in the coming weeks.
Vader is expected to return to St. Albert court on Monday, April 13. He is also expected to appear in Edson court on March 17 after being charged with driving infractions and six breaches of court conditions on Feb. 28.
McCann disappearance
Vader, 42, is charged in connection with the murder of St. Albert seniors Lyle McCann, 78, and Marie McCann, 77. The couple went missing in July 2010 on a trip to British Columbia to visit family. The burned-out shell of their motorhome was discovered at a campground near Edson a few days later. The McCanns were declared legally dead in July 2011, and their bodies have never been found.
Vader was formally charged in the disappearance of the St. Albert couple nearly two years after he was named a suspect. The charges were stayed in March 2014, a few weeks before Vader was to face a jury trial. He was rearrested in December and ordered to remain under house arrest.
