EDSON – Travis Edward Vader should know in two weeks when he will face a preliminary inquiry, the starting point for a possible trial for first-degree murder.

Vader is charged in connection with the deaths of St. Albert couple Lyle and Marie McCann who disappeared in July 2010. Vader was set to appear in court Tuesday morning, but his lawyer made the appearance on his behalf. Vader's lawyer and the Crown prosecutor agreed to adjourn the case for two weeks to give them time to arrange dates for the inquiry.

A preliminary inquiry is the first step in serious criminal cases. At the inquiry, the Crown will present its case to a judge who will determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant a trial. Any potential disputes about the admissibility of evidence will also be settled there.

The McCanns left St. Albert in their motorhome, bound for a B.C. vacation, on July 3, 2010. The motorhome was found burned to a shell on July 5, 2010, but a search for the couple only began on July 10, after they failed to arrive at their destination.

Vader was arrested later that month, but was held on unrelated charges. He was formally charged with the couple's murder in April of this year.
