A person of interest in the disappearance of a missing St. Albert couple was arrested this morning near the hamlet of Niton Junction.

Tactical teams arrested Travis Edward Vader, 38, earlier this morning on several outstanding warrants unrelated to the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann.

The McCanns left their St. Albert home in a motorhome on July 3 bound for a vacation in British Columbia. They were reported missing on July 10 when they failed to meet up with family in Abbotsford, B.C.

Long before the couple was reported missing, on July 5, their motorhome was found burned to a shell near the Minnow Lake campground, near Niton Junction.

Police announced on Friday that Vader was a person of interest in the couple’s disappearance and also said they had found the couple’s SUV, which the couple had been towing behind the motorhome.

The SUV was found near Niton Junction, just off the Highway 16.

Search and rescue crews scoured the area around the SUV and have ended their search of the area. Forensic teams have completed their examination of the SUV.

The couple remains missing and still want to hear from anyone who might have seen Vader, the SUV, the motorhome or the couple at any point in the last two weeks.

Anyone with any information should contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.
