Travis Vader denied bail

The man considered a suspect in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann was denied bail Friday afternoon on charges unrelated to the couple.

Travis Vader did not appear in court on the 16 charges he's facing, from driving while suspended, to obstructing a peace officer and possession of stolen property. And he's never been charged in connection to the McCanns' disappearance.

A publication ban prevents CTV News from legally explaining the judge's decision.

RCMP still says he's a suspect in the case; and the family of the missing couple is glad to hear he'll remain in custody.

"We understand he's being held on charges unrelated to my parents' case," says Bret McCann, Lyle and Marie's son. "But we hear he's quite a dangerous individual. So we're relieved from our point of view and the community's point of view that he's going to stay in the remand centre."

Vader was arrested mid-July by RCMP at a rural residence near Niton Junction. On August 31st, police officially named him a suspect in the case.

The McCanns were last seen back on July 3rd, when the couple left for a holiday in B.C. in their RV.

On July 5th, an Edson RCMP officer came across the couple's burning RV. On July 16th, their missing SUV was located.

A $60,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information on what happened to Lyle and Marie McCann.
